Foxtrot from the film Toy
From the very beginning of his composing career Palester would often write film music. As early as 1932 he wrote music to the film Dzikie pola (Wild Fields) directed by Józef Lejtes. Probably the best known are his melodies from the film Zakazane piosenki (Forbidden Songs) made in 1946. Palester also wrote music to the famous film Miasto nieujarzmione (Untamed City). After he emigrated he wrote music only to Alexander’s Ford film Pierwszy krąg (First Circle), based on Alexander Solzhenitsyn’s prose.
The music to the film Zabawka (Toy) comes from 1933. It was the second film to which Palester wrote music. He composed his film music with great ease. This is how Jan Krenz describes it: "He had all this music in his head. He didn’t want to waste time writing it, so he would spread music paper on the floor, wrote parts for various instruments and began playing. Everything was always right."
