Serenade

The Serenade was written in w 1946 and premiered by the Chamber Orchestra of the Cracow Philharmonic conducted by Andrzej Panufnik at a concert organised by the PWM (Polish Music Publishers) on 9 November 1947. The work still displays the neo-classical traits typical of his earlier compositions. A transparent texture, light tone and references to 18th-century forms are key characteristics of this spectacular and once popular piece. Serenade consists of five movements: Sinfonia, Aria, Scherzino, Notturno and Tema con variazioni.
